Special Needs
It is the position of the academy that all humans have special needs, and all of us are differently abled. In some cases, these special needs require an individual approach, while other needs are best handled in community.
To this end, the academy’s bylaws will establish a special needs committee whose goal is to assess individual needs, initially upon admission and on a continuing basis, and oversee and provide staff and teachers with effective resources to use in meeting each student in their area of need.
Students will not be denied admission based on any special need that the school can possibly accommodate - it is the duty and mission of the academy to acquire whatever resources are necessary to ensure every student has access to the best education as their ability allows them to receive.
Isolation is counter to our pillars, and as such, the committee is entrusted to operate with a goal of inclusion and accommodation for all. Labels and categories will be used minimally, only as necessary to provide resources, and never in a manner that stigmatizes or excludes.
